Nate Welch aka "El Capitan"

Nateo,  our fearless leader has spent most of his working life exploring the planet and guiding folks either down a river or through the bush. Five years ago he visited Tassie, fell in love with the place and the rest, as they say, is history… His words probably come close to summing up the Wild Journeys philosophy “It’s funny how you can travel the world and spend a lifetime searching for the next special experience when sometimes it’s right at your front door – that’s how I feel about the Franklin River…in fact that’s how I feel about Tassie!”

Shaun "Tanky" Clement

Tanky has been working on the Franklin for what seems an eternity and we raz him up a bit by calling him “Old Man River”. In the past 20 years he has experienced the mighty Franklin in all of her moods and majesty. Not only is he recognised as one of the Franklin Rivers most skilled and knowledgeable guides, but he has devoted his life to working on rivers all around the planet and still gets a buzz out of providing a “special” experience for each of his clients.

Matty Smith aka "The Smithenator"

Strong as an ox and full of beans, that’s our Matty! We have been lucky enough to have Matty by our side since the early days of our company and his guiding career. It has been remarkable to watch a young enthusiastic kid turn himself into a highly skilled, personable guide. Matty works professionally as a guide on the Tully, New Zealand and Norway when he’s not with us for the Franklin Rafting season.  His energy and laughter is infectious – you’ll love him!
